The Investigations Unit provides investigative services throughout Osage County and continually cooperates with area police departments as well as with state and federal agencies. Our investigators are assigned crimes reported in the unincorporated areas of Osage County and are responsible for gathering both the physical evidence and factual information needed to successfully identify and arrest offenders and to assist the Osage County Attorney’s Office in the prosecution of those offenders. Our investigators work crimes that vary from burglary, credit card and identity fraud, computer crime, homicide, missing persons, narcotics, and robbery. Our investigators also serve search warrants and subpoenas in the course of their investigations.

The Corrections staff includes a jail sergeant, 11 full time jailers, one part time jailer, and a cook.

The jail can house 32 inmates. The jail consists of an office area for the jailers, two holding cells for inmates that are only here to be processed and soon released or for detoxification of inmates that are under the influence of alcohol/drugs, a dayroom that allows inmates to use one television or use phones, or have interaction with other inmates.

The jailers who work in the jail facility have multi-tasked jobs as well. Jailers are expected to process/release inmates, serve the inmates food that is made by the cook, help wash inmate laundry, clean the jail facility, supervise the inmates 24 hours a day for their safety and protection. They do this by performing jail checks which they walk around the jail and make sure that the inmates don’t need anything, that all inmates are well, that inmates are following the rules of the jail, and they usher inmates in and out of visitation on Sundays during visitation hours. Jailers usually prepare supper for the inmates as the cook usually only prepare breakfast and lunch. The jailers also transport inmates that are arrested in other jurisdictions on our arrest warrants, and they take prisoners to court and provide court security.

All dispatchers are NCIC certified by the Kansas Highway Patrol. Dispatchers are required to be NCIC certified within six months of employment.
